The cost of charging an electric car on the street has climbed again, with prices now averaging 44.55p per kWh, up by nearly 8p. That means topping up a typical EV to 80% using a rapid charger will set drivers back about £4 more than before.
Despite the rise, running an EV still works out at roughly half the cost per mile compared to petrol. But campaigners argue that drivers relying on public chargers are being unfairly hit, since on-street charging carries a higher VAT rate than home charging.
