Ahead of COP27, we have called on the Secretary of State for Transport, Mark Harper MP, and the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Grant Shapps MP, to implement an ambitious Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mandate to guarantee a minimum proportion of electric vehicles on the road from 2024 and provide a clear signal and trajectory to infrastructure investors to accelerate the charge-point rollout.
Together with the ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars from 2030 and vans from 2035, this would help demonstrate the UK’s climate leadership in the decarbonisation of road transport, and support manufacturers and customers in making a switch to electric vehicles.
Alongside industry players such as Ford, Octopus Electric Vehicles and Osprey charging, we recognise the benefits this would bring for job creation, de-risking chargepoint investment decisions and growing the public charging network.
We welcome the opportunity to discuss with the Government the importance of a strong ZEV mandate in its approach to road transport decarbonisation.
